Departing Broome after breakfast, we journey up the spectacular Dampier Peninsula, also known as ‘Dampier Land’. Largely Aboriginal-owned land, the Dampier is a delight for travellers seeking a Kimberley experience that is culturally rewarding in a beautiful environment. Travelling up the red ‘pindan’ 4WD track, learn about the peninsula’s fascinating place in Australia’s history from our guided commentary. Our first stop is the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community, home of the Beagle Bay Church and its glimmering pearl shell altar, where we enjoy morning tea.

Travelling north to the remote One Arm Point Community, the perfect place to view the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago and witness the huge tidal flows of the Kimberley we visit the Community’s aquaculture hatchery, complete with reef fish and trochus shell.

Arriving at beautiful Cygnet Bay we join a fascinating Pearl Farm Tour where we learn about the world’s largest and most beautiful pearls that have been farmed in these pristine waters for generations by the family owned business. After enjoying a delicious lunch we embark on what will undoubtedly be a highlight of your Kimberley adventure – the thrilling Giant Tides Boat Tour. Over 2 hours we feel the rush as we take an exhilarating ride over the world’s largest tropical tides and our skipper shares their local knowledge of the natural beauty of the Kimberley coastline.

After breakfast we travel to the remote One Arm Point Community, the perfect place to view the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago and witness the huge tidal flows of the Kimberley we visit the Community’s aquaculture hatchery, complete with reef fish and trochus shell. We journey back along the Cape Leveque Road before joining a sandy track that takes us to to sublime Pender Bay where we enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the migration grounds of the humpback whale (subject to access and seasonal opening). We then tour the innovative Gubinge (Kakadu Plum) Processing Facility and learn of the amazing natural benefits of this native bush food and the savannah enrichment project in this majority Indigenous owned business. We arrive back in Broome late this afternoon.

Letting the air out of our tyres we join an entertaining and informative ½ Day 4WD Tagalong Tour with our local Indigenous guide who entertains us with stories of traditional life and the colourful characters who started white settlement on the Peninsula. We taste seasonal bush fruit and try traditional fishing and crabbing methods prior to lunch under a shady tree, where we cook the catch – Bardi style on an open fire. A truly fascinating and rewarding insight into the life and times of the traditional caretakers of this country.

  • The Kimberley climate during our touring season coincides with ‘the Dry’. Generally the temperature ranges between 28-32º C during the day & may drop down to below 6º C during the night. It may be considerably warmer during September & October as ‘the Wet’ approaches.
